Brief Overview of the Samsung Galaxy A55

The Samsung Galaxy A55 is the latest addition to Samsung’s popular mid-range smartphone lineup, positioned to offer a compelling balance of features, performance, and affordability. Building upon the success of its predecessors, the Galaxy A55 aims to cater to the diverse needs of consumers seeking a reliable and feature-rich device without breaking the bank.

As a part of Samsung’s extensive Galaxy A series, the Galaxy A55 holds strategic importance in the company’s product portfolio. It represents Samsung’s commitment to providing consumers with a wide range of choices across various price segments, ensuring that there’s a Samsung device for every budget and preference.

Design and Build

Samsung designs their phones in such a way that all the phones from the lowest prices to the highest are just incremental improvements, where with each phone, the features and materials upgrade and we get the ultimate boss, the S24 Ultra.

The Samsung Galaxy A55 uses a better Gorilla Glass than the newer S23 FE, it uses a Gorilla Glass Victus at the front and a Gorilla Glass at the back whose model is not disclosed. It is protected from the sides by an aluminium frame. Samsung didn’t mess with the build quality of this device.

Samsung understands that personalization is key when it comes to smartphone design, which is why the Galaxy A55 is available in a variety of eye-catching color options to suit different tastes and preferences. It is available in Iceblue, Lilac, Navy and Lemon and personally I like the IceBlue and Navy.

Display and Multimedia Experience

The display is often the centerpiece of any smartphone, and the Galaxy A55’s display doesn’t disappoint. With a Super AMOLED, 120 Hz, HDR10+ display, it offers an immersive viewing experience that’s perfect for everything from streaming videos to browsing the web and playing games. The peak brightness is 1000 nits which isn’t perfect for day light but does the job. The phone can stream HDR on Netflix and other platforms.

Although Samsung is not known to have an accurate display, they are known for vibrant and punchy colors and this one does the same, you can however change it to show more natural colors in the display settings.

Performance and Hardware

Under the hood, the Samsung Galaxy A55 packs a powerful Exynos 1480 processor, designed to deliver smooth and responsive performance across a wide range of tasks. It utilizes an upgraded Exynos processor with a 32% increase in GPU performance and a 15% increase in CPU power, as reported by GizChina.

The processor excels in everyday tasks and handles medium gaming well, but don’t expect to play games like Genshin Impact on the highest settings. Previous Exynos processors suffered from power drain and heat issues during CarPlay or Android Auto usage, but this version has resolved that problem. Now, you can wirelessly connect your A55 to your car without worrying about battery drainage.

The standout feature of this phone is its inclusion of 8 GB of RAM in the base model. With this ample memory capacity, you shouldn’t encounter any issues with RAM management, even with the base model. This is highly appealing for potential buyers.

Software and User Interface

The Galaxy A55 comes equipped with Samsung’s custom One UI 6, providing users with a user-friendly and intuitive interface that’s easy to navigate. Gone are the days of TouchWiz; Samsung has made significant improvements, and in my opinion, they are now on par with iOS in terms of usability.

Even after a year of use, the phone doesn’t stutter like previous generations of Samsung phones did. I can’t praise Samsung enough for their dedication to improving their software.

Samsung now promises 4 major OS upgrades and 5 years of security updates which is more than how long most people use their phones, but you definitely can now.

Camera

Equipped with a triple camera setup, the Galaxy A55 offers versatile photography capabilities for capturing stunning photos and videos in any situation. Whether you’re shooting landscapes, portraits, or selfies, the Galaxy A55’s camera setup delivers impressive results with vibrant colors and sharp details. The primary camera is 50 MP with OIS and can shoot 4k at 30 fps.

The camera does an excellent job in good light but struggles a little with low light but not when you activate the night mode.

The front camera is a 32 MP sensor that can shoot 4k at 30 fps, it is good for selfies and occasional vlogging.

Battery Life and Charging

The Samsung Galaxy A55 is powered by a 5000mAh battery, designed to provide all-day usage on a single charge, you should get a screen on time of more than 8 hours.

While the rest of the world is going beyond 100W charging speed, Samsung and Apple at still stuck and slow charging speeds. The phone should go from 0 to 100 % battery in about an hour.

Overall, the battery is very good in my opinion.

Conclusion

The phone’s close competitor, the Samsung Galaxy S23 FE costs around Rs. 4,000 more and offers a better display, better processor and slightly better water resistance. If those things are more important for you then you should have a look at that too. This is great contender for being one of the best mid-range phones of the year. Whether you choose to buy this or not, that is up to you. Thanks for reading!
